Incidents on the streets of Paris after M. Le Pen's victory in the European elections

Riots broke out on the streets of Paris following the significant victory of Marine Le Pen's right-wing party in the European elections.

The political turmoil in France, where President Emmanuel Macron suffered a major third-party defeat forcing him to call early elections, was reflected in the streets.

Hundreds of anti-authoritarian activists took to the streets in the first reaction to the voting results in Europe.

Leftists rioted in Paris and other French cities, clashing with police over the right-wing victory in the elections in EU. Police fired tear gas at rioters in Paris, where demonstrators reportedly chanted “ACAB” (All Cops Are Bastards).

In Marseille, Rennes, Bordeaux, Montpellier and Besançon, protest marches of many thousands took place, allegedly organized by the five leading French trade unions. Protesters carried posters calling for democratic revival and condemned their right-wing opponents.
