Automatic cash registers already in Greece

Lidl is continuing to install self-service cash registers, aiming to have them in every supermarket in the country by 2026.

In particular, the company's management launched self-service cash registers at a pilot level in a number of countries, as well as in Greece, the purpose of which is complete replacement by them in the next two years.

According to flash.gr, since January last year the German chain, which celebrates its 25th anniversary in Greece this year, will first carry out the experiment in a number of stores, after which, if the “experiment” is successful, it will be rolled out throughout the country.

As management president Martin Brandenburger emphasized in his speech at an event dedicated to 25th anniversary of Lidl Hellas, The first store with self-checkouts is located in Sindos, Thessalonikiand will open in Athens by the end of the year.

According to management's plan, the goal is that by the end of 2026, all of the chain's supermarkets (there are currently 230) will be converted into purely self-service stores.

Greece is one of the first countries to transition to this model with for the purpose of faster service to consumers and the use of cash register personnel in other supermarket positions. As an example – the cash register of the Magnit supermarket in Russia.
