A child suffered a ruptured spleen while playing water sports.

A 14-year-old teenager who was injured on June 7 on the coast of Nydri (Lefkada), resulting in a ruptured spleen, was hospitalized at the Patras Children's Hospital.

The head of the 6th division of the Ministry of Health, Yiannis Karvelis, in an interview with tempo24, said that the teenager was transferred from the island of Lefkada to the children's hospital Καραμανδάνειο Νοσοκομείο Παίδων. The victim was first taken to a private hospital where it was discovered that his spleen had ruptured. According to the specialist, the child was hospitalized and his life is out of danger, thanks to the hospital doctors.

Mr. Karvelis said that the operation could not be performed, but the patient would remain in Karamandanio for a few more days.

According to the Coast Guard, the teenager fell into the water while towing an inflatable ring/”pill” by a boat (a type of water entertainment), as a result of which he injured his ribs and, as was later determined, suffered a serious injury – a ruptured spleen.
