ΕΟΔΥ: the number of Covid cases is increasing, the incidence of influenza is decreasing


For the second week in a row, an increase in positivity for SARS-CoV2 has been recorded, while the influenza virus, on the contrary, is showing a “loss of ground,” according to the ΕΟΔΥ report on the epidemic situation for the period from May 25 to June 2.

Number of new hospitalizations was 153, the average weekly number of new hospitalizations over the previous four weeks was 109, and the number of hospitalizations in the corresponding week in 2023 was 486.

During the reporting period registered one new intubation. The average weekly number of new intubations over the previous four weeks was two, and the number of intubations in the corresponding week in 2023 was 16. The number of intubated patients with COVID-19 infection is eight.

Three deaths recorded. The average weekly number of deaths over the previous four weeks was four, and the number of deaths in the corresponding week in 2023 was 44. The most common subvariant of BA.2 remains JN.1.

Viral load monitoring in municipal wastewater shows increased circulation of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in seven of the nine areas tested. An increase of 177% was recorded in Heraklion.

The number of positive flu tests showed a decrease compared to the previous week, falling below 10%. There were no new serious ICU admissions and no new deaths from laboratory-confirmed influenza.
