Police operation in Kypseli and Exarchia against squatters

Police made eight arrests following two operations to evacuate squatters occupying empty buildings in the capital's Kypseli and Exarchia districts.

A double police operation was carried out on Tuesday morning with the assistance of MAT units. Electricity was reportedly stolen from a building in Kipseli, but no one was found inside. The building was cleared of illegal occupants several months ago, but the company that owns it appears to have done nothing to secure the building, resulting in it being confiscated and taken over by the state a few months ago.

As for the operation in Exarchia, it took place in an apartment on the ground floor, which had been turned into a hangout for immigrant anarchists. Not a single person was found in it either. According to the information, the owners of the building appealed to the court with a request to transfer to them the premises seized by squatters five years ago.

A total of 8 arrests involve people found outside buildings.
