Parking spaces for sale in Athens seem to be decked out in gold and precious stones as prices reach unprecedented levels against the backdrop of a general rise in prices for real estate of all types.
Prices at which parking spaces are sold and bought in Athens, according to the Real Estate Transfer Value Register, reach more than 15,000 euros per square meter. In particular, a parking space with an area of only 11 square meters. m in the municipality of Athens was sold on March 26, 2024 for 167,000 euros, that is, 15,181 euros per sq. m. m. In another case, on May 12, 2024, a parking space with an area of 9.9 sq. m. m in the municipality of Athens became the property for 150,000 euros.
Obviously, not all transactions are of the same amount, as there are cases where a parking space of 276.69 sq. m was sold for 60,000 euros. However, the height reached indicates both the rise in prices prevailing in the real estate sector and the demand for parking spaces in a city plagued by traffic jams and lack of space.
In total, during the year, 327 transactions related to the transfer of either full ownership or usufruct associated with the sale of parking spaces were registered in the Real Estate Transfer Register. At the same time, there were 74 cases when places changed hands. The average sales price was 15,000 euros for several square meters.
It is worth noting that the purchase and sale of real estate, including parking spaces, is now prohibited in cash to avoid transactions with “black” money: another initiative of financial workers to combat tax evasion.
