AADE begins inspections of freelancers and businesses that do not have POS terminals

The Independent Directorate of State Revenue (AADE) is going after freelancers and businesses that do not have cash registers or have not connected them to payment terminals.

About 300,000 connections have already been completed, while it is necessary to complete the connection of enterprises that, for various reasons, did not have time to complete this process by the end of April. These businesses need to act now as deadlines will be gradually reduced from this month to avoid fines. In particular, we are talking about the following deadlines:

  • The 7,500 businesses with old cash registers or POS systems must replace them and complete the connection by Monday 10 June.
  • Businesses with ERP software must complete the process by the end of June if they have made an appointment with a technician.
  • Approximately 30,000 seasonal businesses must connect their cash registers to the POS on the first day of business.
  • 3,000 businesses in Tiresia will be able to receive POS by the end of 2025 without being rejected by payment providers.
  • Businesses that do not comply face fines of up to €10,000 for a single entry system and up to €20,000 for a double entry system.

For small businesses in small towns and islands, the fine is halved. In addition, all professionals must activate the IRIS direct payment system by the end of June, otherwise they face a fine of 1,500 euros. Debtors who do not declare their business account to IRIS will incur an additional administrative fine of €1,000.
