Ridiculous and terrible death at Amsterdam airport

The engine of a plane about to take off at Amsterdam airport “sucked in” a man – he died instantly.

The tragic incident occurred at noon on Wednesday 29 May at Schiphol Airport. Dozens of passengers witnessed the man’s terrible death. writes CNN Greece. It was a KLM Embraer plane that was about to fly to Billings, Denmark. In a statement from the airline it says: “We are currently providing assistance to passengers and staff who witnessed the incident at Schiphol.” Schiphol Airport called the incident “horrible”, saying:

“Our thoughts go out to the relatives, we care about the passengers and colleagues who witnessed this. The Royal Military Police are currently investigating.”

The investigation has not yet determined who the person was and it is too early to say whether this was an “incident” or a form of suicide, the spokesperson said.

Similar tragic incidents have happened before. For example, in December 2015, a technical support engineer for Air India died tragically when he was sucked into an airplane turbine at Mumbai airport. The plane, operating Flight 619 from Mumbai to Hyderabad, was turning around to head to the runway. The co-pilot misunderstood the traffic controller's signal and started the engine. A technical employee stood nearby, watching the plane turn around. He was sucked into the turbine and died instantly. Ravi Subramanian was 50 years old. His job was to disconnect the towing dolly before the plane left for the runway.

It is reported that the A319 aircraft did not have an auxiliary power unit. In such conditions, one of the engines must be started using an external power source before the aircraft leaves the runway. Air India Chairman Ashwani Lohani said the tragedy was the result of an error.
