What's happening in the Kharkov region

According to the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov, the situation in the Kharkov region is stabilizing. In the Sumy region, hostilities did not intensify.

Kirill Budanov noted on television on May 14, quotes “UP”:

“Currently, the phase of the Russian border operation in the Kharkov region continues. To say that the enemy is having significant success is not true. At the same time, we must remember that the situation is quite tense and is changing very quickly. However, as of yesterday evening, in my opinion, rapid trend towards stabilization.

That is, the enemy is, in principle, already blocked at those borders where he was able to enter, the operation of the Ukrainian Defense Forces continues to further stabilize and begin to push the enemy out of our state.

As for the Sumy region. The Russians actually planned a similar operation in this area from the very beginning. As of now, they are holding small groups of forces in the border area (the city of Sudzha on the Russian side), but the situation has not yet allowed them to take active action and begin implementing their plan.”

When asked by the presenter when we can expect the Russian forces to retreat, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate noted that the enemy will not retreat on his own, he needs to be knocked out. Therefore, the fighting will continue. At the same time, he noted that the situation, as of now, “is not catastrophic.” According to the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate, the main goal of the current Russian operation in the border area is to create chaos and panic.
