The Greek Tax Administration sent out "letters" 20,000 taxpayers who "forgot" declare income

The Independent State Revenue Administration (ΑΑ∆Ε) sent out “letters of happiness” 20,000 taxpayers who “forgot” declare your income.

These are workers and pensioners with undeclared payments and income, property owners who have not declared rent, and individuals who have forgotten that they have income from abroad.

The verification mechanism has identified some evidence of the existence of such undeclared income and will proceed to estimate the amount of tax payable.

The notice, which taxpayers will find in their AADC e-wallet, will, in addition to the tax amount, also indicate the information the authority relied on in determining the amount. Taxpayers have thirty days to appeal the decision.

In particular, the objects of checks and cross-checks of ΑΑ∆Ε are:

  • Electronic records of salary or pension records, business remuneration and income from dividends, interest, royalties.
  • Available data on other income and objective expenses for living or acquiring property, which are sent annually or included in the last income declaration filed for the year for which the tax calculation report is issued, as well as in the property declaration for the corresponding year, obtained from the integrated information property inventory systems ΑΑ∆Ε.
  • Electronic database at the disposal of ΑΑ∆Ε, which may relate to the implementation of professional or business activities, as well as data obtained as part of the exchange of information for the implementation of international administrative cooperation in the field of direct taxation.
  • Any information received from third parties (denunciations).
