The head of a beardless youth, crowned with a laurel wreath, most likely belonging to a statue of Apollo, is one of the finds from the excavation site at Philippi in northern Greece.
The head dates from the 2nd or early 3rd century AD, the Culture Ministry said in a statement.

Excavations at the archaeological site of Philippi in northeastern Greece were carried out by students from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and completed in September last year.
Excavations continued east of the southern main street (decumanus) at its intersection with the northern axis of the city (Via Egnatia), revealing part of the square on which stood an ornate building.
A coin depicting the Byzantine Emperor Leo VI (886-912), found on a stretch of marble road, helped determine the time of its use.
Statues from the classical and Roman periods adorned buildings and public places in Byzantine cities, including Philippi, founded in 356 BC, ministry officials said. e. and located on the ancient route that connected Europe and Asia – Via Egnatia.
Excavations will continue next year, the Ministry of Culture said.
