The new bypass road, the construction of which is in full swing, will help relieve congestion in the winter resort of Arachova.
The highway is expected to relieve congestion on the local road network, promoting further development of the region. A few hours ago, the final acceptance of the contract for “the provision of technical advisory services to assist the Directorate of Road Infrastructure in the procedures for preparing studies for the project tender, which relate to static, traffic and hydraulic studies,” was also approved, and a set of tender documents for the construction of the highway was approved.
“This is an important step, which, however, must be followed by a number of other procedures, the main one of which is the search for financing for the implementation of the project,” experts note. The project will include one two-way road transport tunnel approximately 1.6 km long, one longitudinal and four transverse evacuation tunnels with a total length of approximately 1.4 km, two level interchanges, one single level interchange, eight bridges and a network of bypasses expensive
Completion of the project, with a budget of approximately €180 million (including necessary expropriations), will bring multiple benefits to the region, while solving the city’s traffic problem during the winter months, which will be bypassed by those visiting the Parnassus and Delphi ski resort.
It is noted that the construction of the road tunnel will play a decisive role in protecting the natural and cultural environment, and many jobs will be created during its implementation. The need to build a new road artery, which will become the main bypass road of the city, has been expressed more than once in the past by many local entities, and only this year a final decision was made.
