Since Magnesia and especially Volos are in the very center of Cyclone Daniel, heavy rains cause rivers to overflow and create tornadoes that destroy everything in their path.
In a video that has gone viral on the internet, a wooden bridge can be seen breaking in half and collapsing under the rushing waters of the Kravsidonas River in a matter of seconds. This bridge connected Volos and Northern Ionia at the height of Strat Makriyannis.
In many areas of Magnesia, the river Cravsidonas overflowed its banks, and its waters flooded the streets, shops and first floors of houses in Chiliadou, Inopneuma, Agios Anargyros, Neapolis and Palea.
Two dead and hundreds injured have been recorded in the region so far. The authorities are urging the population not to leave their homes.
On Tuesday 05.09 in Pelion and in the rest of Thessaly, the amount of precipitation exceeded 750 mm. In many cases, the height of the clouds exceeded 12 km.
