Video: 20 minutes before the Tempi accident, another train collision on the same track was avoided

The Greek TV channel MEGA presented a video document showing that 20 minutes before the accident in Tempi, another train collision was prevented on the Thessaloniki-Larisa suburban route!

In fact, the head of the station, Larisa, justified himself by saying that the arrow “blinked”. This person is clearly unsuitable for such an important service and such a responsible position as the head of the station.

As soon as the train entered the Larisa station on the wrong track, the driver realized what was happening and took concrete action – he reversed. Thus, a collision was avoided.

The video presented by MEGA was taken from the surveillance camera of the commuter train to Larissa, that is, the train that left before the arrival of the fatal Intercity from Athens. In a video recorded inside commuter train 2597, the stationmaster can be heard asking the driver to pull back for a short while due to some problem. According to MEGA, this is because the fateful train IC-62 is approaching, since the time is 10:48.

The fact that the head of the station did not initially answer the question about the reasons for the reverse is explained by the fact that he had a problem With remote control. As the technicians explain, under normal conditions, the corresponding indicators should be white or red, in this case they were blinking. It is this phrase “the arrow is flashing” that the head of the station uses.

In particular, you hear: “Larisa, this is the driver of 2597. Why are we backing out? Larisa, this is the driver of 2597. Why are we giving back? To inform my service.”

Then, having received no answer, he continues to speak: “The head of the Larisa station can inform the duty officer 2597 about the reverse procedure.”

Then, according to the video, you can hear the answer of the station master: “Flash an arrow“.

The commuter train driver then replies: “Okay, thank you very much” and continues on his way.

The chaos that reigned in the department of the station “Larisa” about shifts, is reflected in the documents discovered by MEGA. In the report card of station chiefs, related to the monthly schedule, on the days of a three-day vacation by hand, at the last minute, in pen the names of the workers were entered.

From Friday (24/2) to fateful Tuesday (28/2) The 59-year-old stationmaster works the night shift continuously., i.e. from 22:00 to 7:00.
