Rising prices in supermarkets and shortages of dairy products

New price increases and food shortages are expected from September in supermarkets and other outlets in Greece.

Despite the fact that the rate of inflation, according to the government, has slowed down, high prices continue to show their teeth. According to some experts, a new round of raising prices for consumer goods will occur as early as next month.

What will be the price increase?

  • Croissants, buns and cakes up to 20%
  • Cheese up to 12%
  • Soap and dishwashing liquid up to 9%
  • Pasta up to 8%
  • Washing powders and fabric softeners up to 8%
  • Rice up to 5%
  • Butter up to 5%.

All of them are staples for every household.

However, there is concern about what will happen to dairy products, as there is already a serious shortage of them. Domestic milk production has declined this year as massive increases in feed prices have left many animals malnourished and others slaughtered by breeders in an attempt to reduce the damage.
