Moscow and Minsk decided to continue military exercises

According to Radio Liberty, Russia and Belarus, due to the current situation in the Donbass, decided to continue checking the response forces of the union state.

The decision was announced by Viktor Khrenin, head of the Belarusian Ministry of Defense, during the summing up of the results of the Allied Resolve-2022 military exercises. According to him, during the additional stage, the servicemen will work out the elements of defense of the two countries in more detail. The focus of these exercises is to ensure the de-escalation of military threats of ill-wishers near common borders.

Russian-Belarusian exercises are taking place on the territory of Belarus, near the borders with Ukraine. They began on February 10 and, according to the plan, were supposed to end on February 20. For this, Russia has transferred a number of units and subunits of the Eastern Military District with weapons.

Now, in connection with the current situation, the inspection of the troops will continue. As Viktor Khrenin explained, because “there was a very strong smell of gunpowder in Europe.” The decision to extend the exercises was published on February 20 on the website of the military department. The Belarusian Minister of Defense stated:

“In connection with the increase in military activity near the external borders of the Union State and the aggravation of the situation in the Donbass, the Presidents of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation decided to continue checking the response forces of the Union State. In general, its focus will remain unchanged – it is designed to ensure an adequate response and de-escalation of military preparations of ill-wishers close to our common borders.”

He noted that the countries neighboring Belarus “in an emergency unscheduled manner” are “pumped up” with the most modern weapons” and Europe is “purposefully pushed to war”, he quotes edition.
