After the Personal Data Protection Authority imposed a fine on ΥΠΡΟΠΟ, the Ministry of Citizen Protection continues to amend the legislation regulating the process of issuing new identity cards.
The ministry statement explains in detail:
“The Ministry of Citizen Protection and the Greek Police pay particular attention to the decisions of independent bodies, such as the Office for Personal Data Protection, in order to continuously improve procedures and strengthen the protection of citizens' personal data. In this regard, action has already been initiated to amend the legal framework governing the process of issuing new police identity cards, in accordance with the recent decision of the Authority and to fully comply with its requirements. These changes include:
a) Application of the principle of minimization in relation to the storage of personal data.
b) Updating relevant information materials for citizens on the Hellenic Police website.
These actions are expected to be completed within six months. At the same time, the validity period of already issued identity cards remains unchanged, and the process of issuing them continues as usual until all necessary changes are completed“
Let us remind you that earlier “Athens News” wrote in detail about the procedure for issuing new tavutite (identity cards).
