Weather: temperature drop by 10 degrees, rain and storms

From today, September 29, the weather in Greece will begin to worsen. Significant drops in temperature, storms and strong winds are expected.

The National Meteorological Agency (EMY) has updated its worsening weather advisory, which was issued on Saturday. It reports strong winds, significantly lower temperatures, as well as localized heavy rain and storms. The bad weather will last until Monday inclusive.

Wind

Stormy northwest winds, with a force of 7 to 8 (in some places up to 9) on the Beaufort scale, will blow from Sunday afternoon in the Ionian Sea and in the west of mainland Greece. Winds are also expected from midday in central Macedonia, the Sporades, eastern Thessaly, Sterea, Evia, the Kythira region and Crete. In other regions, the wind will be strong in places. Winds are forecast to ease from Monday afternoon.

Rain and storms

From Sunday afternoon until early Monday morning, heavy rain and storms will occur in the northeastern parts of the country: eastern Macedonia, Thrace and the northeastern Aegean Sea.

Air temperature

Expected on Sunday 29.09 temperature drop in Macedonia, Epirus and the Ionian Islands, as well as nationwide on Monday, September 30. The decrease will be from 6 to 8 degrees Celsius. It is expected that the air temperature on Monday will not exceed +21°C in Thessaloniki and +24-25°C in Athens.

• From midday, heavy rain and storms are expected in central Macedonia, the Sporades, eastern Thessaly, Sterea, Evia, as well as in the area of ​​Kythira and Crete.

• There will be heavy rain and storms in the north-eastern parts of the country this afternoon.

Forecast for Monday

On September 30, increased cloudiness with rain and storms is expected in eastern Macedonia, Thrace and the islands of the northern and eastern Aegean Sea. In some areas, these events will be particularly intense until the early morning, but then quickly subside and end in the afternoon.

Air temperatures throughout the country will drop and slightly below seasonal norm. In the north it will not exceed 20-22°C, and in the rest of the country it will be +23-26°C.
