Panathinaikos defeated Maccabi 90:67 and won their third victory in a row in the EuroLeague

Athenian “Panathinaikos” continued his impeccable start in the EuroLeague, defeating Maccabi Tel Aviv at home with a score 90:67.

The match of the third round of the regular season took place on the evening of October 2 at Telecom Center Athens. After victories over Paris Basketball and ASVEL, Zeljko Obradovic’s team won the third meeting of the European season.

The match was almost over in the first half

Panathinaikos took the initiative from the first minutes. After an equal start, the hosts made a 7-0 spurt and already in the eighth minute were ahead by a double-digit distance – 21:8.

The first quarter ended with a score 25:10.

In the second quarter, the situation for Maccabi did not change fundamentally. The Israelis briefly reduced the gap to ten points, but Panathinaikos quickly restored the advantage and brought it to almost twenty before the big break – 43:24.

The advantage grew to 30 points

After the break, the Athens team continued to control the game. At the 24th minute the gap reached 24 points – 54:30and the third quarter ended with the score 68:43.

In the final ten minutes, Panathinaikos’ advantage at a certain point grew to 30 points – 77:47.

Maccabi managed to slightly reduce the difference only in the end. Bottom line – 90:67.

Yabusele – 17 points, Hayes-Davies is back

The most productive player of Panathinaikos was Gershon Yabusele – 17 points. He made three three-point shots.

Particular attention was paid to Nigel Hayes-Daviesreturning after an absence due to injury. The American immediately dialed 13 pointsadding four rebounds and four assists.

Sylvain Francisco and Lefteris Mantzoukas scored 11 points each, Isaac Bonga scored 10 points.

For Maccabi, Roman Sorkin was the best with 13 points.

17 thousand spectators in Athens

The match at the Telekom Center Athens was watched by about 17,003 viewers. The home ground still remains impregnable for Panathinaikos: the team played all three of its first EuroLeague matches in Athens and won all three.

Before Maccabi, the Athenians defeated Paris Basketball and the French ASVEL.

Obradovic: “Another good game”

After the match, head coach Zeljko Obradovic noted the aggressive start of his team and the fact that the players managed to maintain this attitude for almost the entire 40 minutes.

Separately, the coach noted Hayes-Davis: according to Obradovic, even during recovery, the basketball player continued to work every day in the gym and performed well immediately after his return.

Now Panathinaikos switches to the Greek Championship. After the domestic tour, the team will face a much more serious European test – October 8 away match against Fenerbahce.
