Died in Ukraine British Intelligence Corps Major Paul Wilkes. Officially, London speaks of an accident far from the front, but the Greek DefenseNet publishes a video and claims that officer was hit by Russian forces.
The death of 40-year-old British Intelligence Corps major Paul Wilkes in Ukraine has received two fundamentally different versions: the British Ministry of Defense claims an accident far from the front, while the Greek DefenseNet claims that the officer was hit by Russian forces and publishes a video of the alleged attack.
Paul Wilkes died September 12, 2026. The British Ministry of Defense officially confirmed his death and said that the cause was a road accident in Ukraine, which occurred far from the front line. The same version was disseminated by British television channels and news agencies.
— Wilkes was a career officer Intelligence Corps British Army;
– official version of London – Road accident far from the front line;
— DefenseNet claims that the officer was killed by Russian forces;
— a video has been published online, which supporters of this version associate with his death;
— DefenseNet also claims that Wilkes advised the Ukrainian military and was involved in the use Storm Shadow;
— there is no independent confirmation that the published video actually records the moment of Wilkes’ death.

The British Ministry of Defense confirms that Wilkes graduated from the military academy Sandhurst in 2012 and after that he joined the Intelligence Corpswhere he remained throughout his military career.

Greek military publication DefenseNet gives a completely different version. The publication claims that the British major was hit by Russian forces while carrying out missions in Ukraine.
In support of this version, DefenseNet publishes a video that appeared in X, which shows an impact on a car. The authors of the publication associate the destroyed transport with the group in which Wilkes was allegedly located.
However, the video itself does not allow independent identification of the people in the car. At the moment, there are also no confirmed geolocations, filming times or materials published that would clearly link this episode to the British officer.
Storm Shadow and the British presence
DefenseNet also claims that Wilkes was in Ukraine as an adviser to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and participated in the training of the Ukrainian military in the field of missile systems, in particular Storm Shadow. The official statement from the British Ministry of Defense does not contain these details.
At the same time, the very fact of the presence of British military personnel and specialists in Ukraine to train Ukrainian forces has long been no secret. Earlier, Athens News wrote with reference to The Times that British military trained Ukrainians to work with Storm Shadow and NLAW.
In November 2025, the UK will also transferred to Ukraine a new batch of Storm Shadowand in the summer of 2026, Ukrainian forces continued to use these missiles against targets in Russia.
Moscow previously warned London
The context of this story is especially sensitive due to the sharp escalation of rhetoric between Moscow and London. At the end of August, Russia officially warned that British military installations may become targets of retaliatory strikesif British weapons continue to be used for attacks deep in Russian territory.
Later, the topic of possible attacks on British targets was continued after Moscow’s statements about London’s growing participation in the Ukrainian missile program. “Athens News” was analyzed separately Vladimir Putin’s reaction to a question about possible British targets.
