Inquiry into the death of Giorgos Mazonakis reached a new level: two doctors of a private office in Kolonaki, after many hours of interrogation, were taken into custodyand the investigation continues to study the recovered digital data, the operation of the plasmapheresis machine and the time interval before the call to EC.

The investigator and the prosecutor decided to temporarily imprison two doctors after a procedure that lasted about 18 o’clock. They were charged with premeditated murder with indirect intent, committed through inaction. The accused deny guilt. Deleted photos and videos were recovered

One of the most important areas of investigation was digital traces. According to LiFOspecialists recovered from the doctor’s phone two photos and one videodeleted on the evening of the singer’s death.

The investigation is trying to establish what exactly was recorded on these files, at what time they were made and why they were subsequently deleted. Previously it was reported about a photograph of Mazonakis, taken around 14:45when he was in the office during the procedure. This data is compared with the testimony of those present and electronic records.

The digital log of the plasmapheresis device is studied separately. According to the investigation, the equipment recorded several warnings during the procedure. Investigative authorities are trying to establish how the doctors reacted to them, when exactly the procedure was stopped and in what condition the patient was at that time.

It was the data from the device that became one of the factors after which the charges were tightened. At the same time, the doctors’ defense claims that they took the necessary actions and did everything possible to save the patient.

Much attention is paid to the chronology of events. The case file contains various information about the time Mazonakis arrived at the office and when his condition sharply worsened.

The president of KOK also publicly rejected attempts to blame the ambulance service, saying that the rescuers acted in accordance with protocol and arrived to the patient in a state of circulatory arrest, without a pulse.

Doctors deny the accusations

During questioning, doctors denied that they had deliberately put Mazonakis in danger. The female doctor stated that she did everything possible to save him, and her husband claims that he was not directly involved in the plasmapheresis procedure and learned about the critical situation later.

The defense also claims that the equipment was used legally and was declared to the Athens Medical Association. These allegations are now being verified by the investigation and do not resolve the questions raised by the prosecution.

The investigation already extends beyond the actions of just two doctors. The Athens prosecutor’s office ordered urgent preliminary checkto find out whether there might have been criminal omissions on the part of the Athens Medical Association or other bodies that were supposed to control the activities of the office and the equipment used.
