The love for ice cream in Thessaloniki sometimes takes very criminal forms: The 40-year-old man was detained in the city center when he again tried to reach the kiosk refrigerator, according to police.
And everything would have looked like an ordinary attempt at petty theft, if not for one detail: the place turned out to be very familiar to the suspect.
Sweets pull you back
According to police, the man was detained early in the morning in the center of Thessaloniki while he was trying to open the refrigerator of one of the kiosks.
During the check, it turned out that this was not his first gastronomic expedition to the same address.
Back in June, as the investigation established, he had already opened the same refrigerator and took it away ice cream and other sweets totaling about 600 euros.
When you really want dessert
Agree, 600 euros of ice cream is no longer just a sudden impulse to eat something cold in the heat.
It’s almost a business plan. Or a very severe case of sweet addiction.
True, if this was the plan, it was not the most successful one: after the first “success” the man for some reason decided to return to the same refrigerator. Apparently, they figured that the kiosk had a short memory.
But the refrigerator was under surveillance
This time the attempt ended not in ice cream, but in detention.
The police took the 40-year-old man to the station, and a criminal case was opened against him.
Now, instead of choosing between a popsicle, a cone and a family package, he will have to meet with the prosecutor.
The sweet life didn’t work out
The story, of course, looks almost anecdotal, but for the kiosk owner it was hardly funny.
Moreover, the damage from the previous theft turned out to be quite serious – on 600 euros. This is no longer a couple of chocolates that accidentally disappeared, but a full-fledged “cleansing” of the refrigerator.
One can only guess what exactly the attacker was going to do with so many sweets: organize a personal belly celebration, treat friends, or open his own summer mini-buffet.
Be that as it may, the craving for sweets this time clearly let him down more than the lack of self-control.
