Story Stavros Floros, who lost his leg after being hit by a tourist boat propeller while participating in Survivor Greece, moved into a new phase: The 22-year-old Greek is demanding more than $100 million from the show’s producers. and Acun Medya categorically denies the allegations.
Tragedy happened May 11, 2026 off the island of Saona in the Dominican Republic, where the Greek version of Survivor was filmed.
Floros, along with another project participant, was spearfishing when he was hit by a tourist boat.
The boat’s propeller caused catastrophic injuries to him: his left leg was actually cut off, and his right leg was also seriously damaged.
The Athens News reported in detail about the incident in the material “Survivor Greece was stopped after a participant was seriously injured”.
The boat driver was detained
A few days later, the investigation received an important continuation.
A tourist boat driver was detained in the Dominican Republic, and Greek media reported that he allegedly admitted: a signal buoy was installed in the dive area.
“Athens News” wrote about this separately in the material “Boat driver arrested in Survivor contestant injury case”.
If this version is officially confirmed, it will be of fundamental importance: previously, some publications suggested that the participants could be in the water without a warning buoy.
Floros: there was practically no security
Now Stavros Floros argues that responsibility does not lie solely with the driver of the vessel.
According to US media reports and statements from his lawyers, he accuses the Survivor production of systematically sending contestants on spearfishing trips into open waters with heavy tourist boat traffic.
According to his version, there was no security vessels, observers, a protection zone and a sufficient warning system for passing boats.
“They based a large part of the show’s format on the idea that the contestants would be spearfishing on the high seas, where there were tourist boats all the time.”
Floros also claims that before his accident there had already been dangerous episodes and even a death.
It is important to emphasize: these statements are contained in the position of the Floros side and while not established by a court decision.
“The boat didn’t stop right away.”
In the new version of events, additional details of the accident itself appear.
The tourist ship initially continued moving after the impact and turned around only after passengers on board demanded to return, Floros said.
He claims that it was one of these passengers who applied a tourniquet to him and actually saved him from fatal blood loss.
Following the accident, Floros was first taken to a hospital in the Dominican Republic and then flown to Miami.
There he spent about 61 days and underwent several operations.
What exactly does he require?
According to TMZthe amount of claims exceeds $100 million.
Floros is seeking compensation for past and future medical expenses, surgeries, prosthetics and rehabilitation, loss of income and earning capacity, permanent disability, physical suffering and psychological damage.
Among the defendants in the publications are named Acun Medya, Acun Medya Global, Acun LLC, Acun Ilicali and SKAI TV channel.
Video: Floros talks in detail about his version
In the MEGA story, Floros for the first time talks in detail about his version of the incident and explains why he considers the security measures insufficient.
But Acun Medya now denies everything
On the evening of September 4, the production company Acun Medya issued an official response.
The company stated that did not receive notice of any claim and am not familiar with its contents.
At the same time, Acun Medya called the accusations made in publications and statements by Floros “unfounded, false and defamatory”.
The company emphasizes that for many years it has been supporting the participants of its projects and providing them with both moral and material assistance.
In addition, Acun Medya cautioned that it reserves the right to take legal action to protect its reputation.
After the accident, the company spoke completely differently
Immediately after the tragedy, the production position was much softer.
On May 12, Acun Medya stated that after the incident, assistance was immediately organized and Floros was safely transported to a medical facility.
The company emphasized that the causes of the incident were being investigated by local port authorities.
SKAI also stated that it would support Floros and his family in matters of treatment, hospitalization and rehabilitation.
Moreover, Floros’ father then said that he personally spoke with Acun Ilijali and received a promise that the production would pay for his son’s treatment as long as necessary.
The family initially did not intend to sue
One more twist is especially interesting.
In May, Floros’ father spoke publicly:
“We do not intend to take legal action. We are only interested in doing everything possible for our child.”
Four months later the situation has changed radically.
Now Floros himself is not only demanding multimillion-dollar compensation, but also claims that the production did not provide adequate protection to the participants.
Who is responsible is the main question of the court
There are now several potential levels of responsibility in this story.
The first is the actions of the tourist boat driver: did he follow the route and speed, could he see the buoy and why the ship was next to the diving people.
The second is the responsibility of production: was the area safe, who was responsible for controlling the water area and accompanying the participants.
The third is the actions of Floros himself and his compliance with safety rules during spearfishing.
That is why the previous formulation “accident” is no longer sufficient. The court may be faced with the question of whether Was the tragedy unpredictable or the result of systemic deficiencies in the organization of filming?.
Editorial comment
When the accident happened in May, the story looked primarily like a tragic collision between a man in the water and a tourist boat.
Now the picture is much more complicated.
The boat driver was detained, reports of a buoy appeared, and Floros himself claims that safety problems existed much earlier and were known to production.
At the same time, Acun Medya states the opposite: it considers the accusations slanderous and claims that it has not even received an official claim.
That is, it is the court that now has to separate the facts from mutual accusations.
But one thing is already clear: extreme reality television cannot be justified by the word “extreme” when it comes to basic safety.
Challenges, hunger, physical fatigue and risk can be sold to the viewer as part of the television format. But the movement of tourist boats next to the participants in the water is no longer a scenario risk, but a matter of professional organization of production.
If Floros proves that the participants were actually sent on spearfishing without a full-fledged water area control system, The $100 million lawsuit could become not just the story of one victim, but one of the most serious legal blows to the extreme reality TV industry..
