The accident ended in robbery: two men were arrested in Rhodes for attacking a British tourist

In Rhodes, a 32-year-old man and his 19-year-old nephew were temporarily 44-year-old British tourist jailed for robbery after a road accident.

According to Protothemathe two defendants testified to the Rhodes investigator and denied that they stole things from the tourist. They argued that after the car collision there was only a verbal conflict.

However, their explanations did not convince the prosecutor and investigator. After questioning, the 32-year-old man and his 19-year-old nephew were declared temporary prisoners and sent to prison pending further consideration of the case.

What happened after the accident

The incident, according to police, occurred July 7, 2026. A car carrying a 32-year-old man, his 19-year-old nephew and the former’s 35-year-old wife collided with a car driven by a 44-year-old British tourist.

After the accident, the tourist, as stated in the case file, followed their car. When the car stopped, a conflict occurred between the parties. According to the police, the accused used force to take the British man’s mobile phone, money and personal documents.

This is a tourist service: first an accident, then a showdown, then minus the phone, money and documents. Greece, of course, is a hospitable country, but some local characters clearly confused the word “tourist” with the word “prey”.

Two people have been arrested and the woman is being searched for.

After the victim’s statement, she took up the case Rhodes Police Crime Squad. Two men were detained, and a 35-year-old woman who was in the car with them is still wanted, according to Greek media.

Athens Voice also writes that the accused insisted: there was no robbery, and after the accident there was only a quarrel. But the judicial authorities considered the case materials sufficient for temporary imprisonment.

It is important to emphasize: we are talking about charges, not sentences. The final assessment will be made by the court. But the very measure of temporary detention shows that the investigator and the prosecutor considered the case serious and did not accept the accused’s version of a simple traffic dispute.

Why is the matter unpleasant for Rhodes?

Rhodes lives on tourism, and such stories hit not only the specific victim, but also the reputation of the island. For a tourist, the loss of a phone and documents abroad is not a minor everyday nuisance, but a full-fledged nightmare: police, consulate, communication with the bank, card cancellation, insurance, delays and ruined vacation.

For local authorities and police, such cases are especially sensitive during the high season. On the islands, tourist safety is not a marketing phrase, but part of the economy. When a person, after an accident, instead of help receives, according to investigators, an attack and robbery, it no longer looks like a crime chronicle, but like a blow to the entire picture of a “safe holiday.”

The Athens News has previously reported on other cases where tourists in Greece have become victims of abuse or crime. For example, in Attica, a taxi driver charged tourists €170 instead of €45 and was caught after a complaint. The taxi driver took €170 from tourists instead of €45 and got caught.

What remains to be discovered

The investigation will have to reconstruct the exact sequence of events: how the accident happened, why the tourist followed another car, who first started the conflict, whether force was used and who exactly took the phone, money and documents.

The role of a 35-year-old woman, who, according to police, was in the car with the accused, will be examined separately. While she is being sought, the full picture of events remains incomplete.

The key to the case may be the testimony of the victim, camera recordings, data from phones, possible witnesses, signs of damage to cars and the discovery of stolen items. Without this, the case risks turning into a classic “he said, they said” scheme, and the courts, as we know, should not work at the level of the neighborhood coffee gossip.

Main conclusion

In Rhodes, an uncle and nephew were sent into custody in connection with the robbery of a British tourist after a road accident. They deny the accusations and claim that it was only about a quarrel after a car collision.

The prosecutor and investigator did not accept this version. The case will now continue in court, and police are looking for a 35-year-old woman who, according to investigators, was in the same car.

For Rhodes, this story is doubly unpleasant: one episode of a road conflict turned into a case of violent robbery of a tourist. In a season when the island needs not scandals, but the trust of vacationers, such cases act as bad advertising, which neither the sea, nor the sun, nor yet another booklet with smiling people on the beach will block.
