In Nicaea, a candy store employee gave fending off a robber with a mop after realizing that the weapon in his hands was fake. Still a raider managed to take some of the money from the cash register and escape.
The incident occurred on the evening of Sunday, July 5, at approximately 10:45 p.m. According to MEGAa man in dark clothes, a blue cap, mask and gloves entered the candy store and headed to the cash register. The employee immediately suspected that this was not an ordinary customer.

The woman said she had just come out of the utility room with a mop and noticed a man come in at the cash register. She greeted him, saw the mask and gloves and realized that the situation looked suspicious.
“I said “good evening” to him and saw that he was wearing gloves. Then I realized that this was probably not the client.”
“Please don’t touch me”
According to the employee, the man pulled out a gun and said, “robbery.” She asked him not to harm her, and he ordered her to take the bag and put money from the cash register in it.
The worker initially complied, since the store owner warned the staff in advance: in the event of an attack, it was better to hand over the money and not risk their lives. This, by the way, is the most reasonable advice in such situations. A mop may become the heroine of a video, but life is still more useful than box office revenue, oddly enough for our species.
When the robber looked away from the door, the employee managed to press the panic button under the cash register and hide behind the refrigerators. After that, the raider, in her words, began to “shoot,” and she realized that we were not talking about a real weapon, but about a “scarecrow.”
“When I was behind the refrigerators, he started shooting, and then I realized that these were capsules. I took a mop and started hitting him.”
The video went viral
CCTV cameras recorded the moment of the attack. As he writes in.grthe footage shows the employee getting into a fight with the robber, grabbing a mop and trying to drive him away from the cash register.
According to Protothemathe attacker still managed to take some of the cash and escape. Before leaving, he reportedly opened the refrigerators and took other items. Here he is, a criminal mastermind: he came with a fake gun, got a mop and checked the refrigerator on the way. Almost a business plan.
Police are examining CCTV footage and videos that have already circulated on social media. The search for the attacker is underway.
The bakery has been robbed 21 times already
The most alarming part of the story isn’t even the mop itself, but the statistics. According to the owner, the confectionery shop has already been the target of robbers and burglars 21 times. This is reported MEGA And Newsit.
Newsit also published a video of another previous episode: in it, the attacker tries to open the central door, gets inside, goes to the cash register and looks for money in the drawers. According to the publication, this was one of a series of raids on the same store.
According to the owner, there was also a similar episode in March, but probably with a different perpetrator: he was described as younger and taller, while the current attacker looked much older.
What does this case show?
The story became popular due to the unusual reaction of the employee, but behind the funny image of “robber versus mop” there is an unpleasant reality: small shops and night spots in areas of Athens regularly become easy targets for raiders.
A panic button, cameras and instructions to staff help reduce risk, but do not replace normal control of a criminal situation. When the same store is targeted 21 times, it is no longer “bad luck”, but a diagnosis of the area, security and prevention. People, of course, can pretend every time that this is an isolated incident. A convenient habit, especially if the police don’t want to work.
