A large fire broke out on the afternoon of July 3 in the agroforest area near Spatovuni in Corinthia, in the Agios Vasilios region. The fire broke out shortly after 4 p.m. and quickly intensified due to strong winds. At 17:00, a warning was sent to residents of the area via the 112 system, urging them to remain prepared and follow the instructions of the authorities.

A reinforced group of the Fire Service is working on the site: 85 firefighters, three foot groups of the 9th ΕΜΟΔΕ, 21 fire engines, volunteers and tank trucks from the Peloponnese region. From the air, four planes and four helicopters are fighting the fire, one of which is being used to coordinate water drops. Fire Service of Greece
112 warned area residents
Message 112 was sent to residents of the wider Spatovouni area. It says: “Forest fire in the Spatovouni area of the regional unit of Corinth. Stay ready. Follow the instructions of the authorities.”
At this stage, authorities did not announce an evacuation. However, residents and drivers are advised not to approach the fire site, not to interfere with the movement of fire equipment and to be prepared for new orders if the wind direction changes.
The drone monitors the fire front
To assess the development of the fire, the IKAROS group from the Peloponnese region with a drone was sent to the site. The coordination center receives a continuous view from optical and thermal cameras, which helps identify active outbreaks and direct ground and air forces. Capital.gr
At the same time, an arson investigation team arrived in the area. Its task is to establish the cause of the fire. So far, no official versions of the origin of the fire have been announced.
Strong winds complicate firefighting
The main risk now is the wind. It can quickly change the direction of fire spread, transfer sparks to new areas and complicate the work of aviation. That is why firefighters strengthened their team in the first hours after the fire was reported.
For Corinthia, it’s another reminder that a summer fire doesn’t start with a pretty picture on the news, but with smoke over a field that can become a fire front within minutes. Residents of the area should monitor 112 messages and official reports from the Fire Service, without relying on rumors from local chats, where a fire is usually put out, ignited and the culprit is found before the first car arrives.
