Pashinyan retained power: the Central Election Commission of Armenia summed up the results

Armenian Central Election Commission announced the final election results: party Nikol Pashinyan received 49.81% and a majority in parliament.

Central Election Commission of Armenia announced the final results of the parliamentary elections after counting 100% ballots. The Prime Minister’s ruling party won Nikol Pashinyan “Civil contract”who received 49.81% votes.

According to Reutersparty “Civil contract” dialed 727 160 votes and gets 61 mandates in the National Assembly. This allows Pashinyan’s political force to maintain a parliamentary majority and continue forming a government without a coalition.

The block took second place “Strong Armenia”dialed 340 062 voices, or 23.29%. He gets 28 mandates. In third place is the block “Armenia” With 145 097 voices, or 9.94%what gives him 11 places in parliament.

The fourth political force to enter parliament was the party “Prosperous Armenia”. She got 58 368 votes, or 4.00%and will be presented 5 deputies.

Pashinyan retains majority

In the Armenian parliament 105 seats. Thus, “Civil contract” gets an absolute majority – 61 mandates. This means that Nikol Pashinyan retains the post of prime minister and the ability to independently pursue a political course.

According to APthese elections became an important test for Pashinyan after difficult years associated with the defeat in Karabakh, the cooling of relations with Russia and Yerevan’s turn towards closer cooperation with the West.

At the same time, the result of the ruling party was lower than in the 2021 elections, when “Civil contract” got more 50%. There is victory, but the political margin of safety no longer looks limitless. However, the main thing for the authorities now is different: the majority has been preserved. And in politics this is often more important than beautiful percentages – it’s sad, but mathematics rarely cares about beauty.

The opposition has strengthened

Strong block result “Strong Armenia” shows that the opposition camp remains a significant factor. The bloc received almost a quarter of the votes and is becoming the main opposition force in parliament.

The bloc is also entering parliament “Armenia” and party “Prosperous Armenia”. This means that the new composition of the National Assembly will be more stressful for the authorities than Pashinyan’s first place alone would suggest.

Reuters notes that several opposition forces, speaking from more pro-Russian positions, collectively gained a significant share of the votes. This reflects the split in Armenian society around foreign policy, relations with Moscow, the West and the consequences of the war with Azerbaijan.

Victory to the song Queen

After the results are announced Pashinyan published a video for the song on his Telegram channel We Are the Champions. The gesture is clear: the authorities are celebrating victory and demonstrating confidence.

But behind this picture there remains a more complex political reality. Pashinyan did win the elections and retained his majority, but the country remains divided, and the opposition has gained enough serious representation to constantly put pressure on the government.

Editorial comment

Election results in Armenia show: Pashinyan retained power, but no longer in the previous atmosphere of political upsurge. His party won and received a majority, but the result of the opposition speaks of serious mistrust of a significant part of society.

The main conclusion is simple: the Armenian prime minister received a new mandate, but with it old problems. This is a relationship with Russiasecurity after the Karabakh disaster, negotiations with Azerbaijancourse to the West and internal discontent. Victory video below We Are the Champions may look good on Telegram, but you will have to govern the country not to music, but to the noise of unresolved crises.
