The fire spread to four carsamong whom were two trucks for transporting gas. Also, according to authorities, were damaged two underground fuel storage tanks. With such a set of objects on one site, the situation could develop extremely quickly: gas, tanks, underground reservoirs and fire – this is not just an accident, but an almost ready-made scenario for a disaster if safety systems fail.
The causes of the explosion are being investigated
The causes of the incident are still officially under investigation. Authorities did not say what exactly was the immediate source of the explosion: a technical malfunction, violation of operating rules, an error in operating equipment or another reason.
Liquefied gas is widely used in Uzbekistan not only in enterprises, but also in the domestic sector – along with natural gas, which is distributed through pipelines. This prevalence makes the safety of gas infrastructure especially important: one accident at a gas station can turn into a tragedy with deaths and injuries in minutes.
Editorial comment
Tragedy in Kashkadarya reminds us again: the gas infrastructure does not forgive negligence, outdated equipment and formal control. When there is a gas station, gas carriers and fuel containers on the same site, any mistake becomes not a local problem, but a threat to the people around.
Now the main question is not only what exactly caused the explosion, but also how this station was tested, whether the rules for storing and pumping gas were observed, and why the accident led to such consequences. Because after six deaths, the phrase “the causes are being established” no longer sounds like a procedure, but like a belated recognition: the security system somewhere did not work.
