Summer discounts in Greece start on July 13th. How will the stores work?

Summer discounts in Greece will begin on Monday, July 13, 2026and will last until August 31. During the first week of sales, stores will be able to open on Sundays as well. July 19at the request of the owners.

According to Greek media reports, including Ta Nea And in.grretail stores and department stores will be able to open on the first Sunday of the discount period – July 19. Recommended work schedule: from 11:00 to 18:00. Of course, “recommended” in the Greek trade sometimes means “depending on the area and mood,” because why make life too simple.

What Buyers Should Check

The main question for buyers is not the size of the inscription “-50%”but the real old price. According to the current rules, as indicated Οικονομικός Ταχυδρόμοςthe initial price should be the lowest price at which the product was sold during the last 30 days before the discount is applied.

If the product is on sale for less than a month, the lowest price for the last one is taken as the basis. 10 days. This rule should protect buyers from the old trick: first raise the price, then heroically “lower it” and wait for applause from the wallet.

Customers should check that the previous and new reduced prices are clearly marked on the product or on the shelf. The mere indication of the discount percentage – for example “-30%” or “-50%” – not always necessary. But if the store uses such designations, it should be clear that we are talking about a discount, and not about another form of promotion.

Rules for outlet

Special attention should be paid to outlet. If a product is sold through an outlet, the previous price should be the lowest price in effect at that outlet for the relevant period, and not the price of the main store.

This is an important detail: the buyer must see real benefits in the exact place where he makes the purchase. Otherwise, the discount turns into a theatrical performance, where the price plays the role of honesty, but clearly overplays it.

When a discount percentage is required

Indication of the discount percentage becomes mandatory if the reduced prices apply to more than 60% goods in the store. If there are different discounts for different product categories, the store must indicate the range, for example: “from 20% to 50%”.

For the consumer, this means a simple thing: you should not believe one large sign at the entrance. You need to look at a specific product, a specific previous price and a specific new price.

During sales season, the most expensive thing in a store is often not the product, but the buyer’s inattention.
