Tempi, prices and scandals: Mitsotakis is preparing a bill

Expensiveness, Tempi, scandals and new parties are strengthening pressure on the government Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The question is no longer a question of criticism, but of a political score.

Greece enters the new political season with a heavy load: Tempihigh costs, scandals, fatigue of society and the emergence of new parties. Government Kyriakos Mitsotakis keeps talking about “stability”but it increasingly looks like the country is preparing to present a bill to the authorities.

The Prime Minister is trying to lead the country to elections 2027 under the slogan of controllability and economic progress. But the everyday life of citizens tells a different story: prices for food and energy continue to put pressure on wages and pensions, housing is becoming more expensive, and the state increasingly looks not like a protector of society, but an accountant who rejoices at the growth of tax revenues.

The topic of high prices is especially painful. Rising prices feed revenues from ΦΠΑ And ΕΦΚwhich means the state budget benefits precisely at the moment when citizens lose purchasing power. A very convenient economy: the citizen becomes poorer, and the reports become more beautiful.

Tempi remains an open wound

Tragedy in Tempi remains not just a legal case, but a political wound. Families of the victims are demanding truth and accountability, while the government has been accused of dragging its feet, covering up inconvenient details and showing no real respect for the victims.

Maria Caristianuthe mother of someone who died in the disaster, became a symbol of public resistance precisely because the authorities were unable to convincingly answer the main question: who is responsible and why is the truth still breaking through the resistance of the system?

According to Greek media reports, Karystiana announces a new political project May 21 under the slogan “Hope for a New Beginning”. This is not just party news. This is a direct consequence of the failure of trust in government after Tempi.

New batches as a symptom of fatigue

Several new projects are simultaneously entering or preparing to enter the political scene. Besides Maria Karistianuformer prime minister Alexis Tsiprasaccording to Greek media, intends to present a new political project May 26. His task is obvious: to reassemble the collapsed space of the center left and progressive voters.

A possible project of the former prime minister is being discussed separately Antonis Samaras. Here the wording should be kept cautious for now: we are talking about preparation and political signals, and not about a fully formalized fact. But the very fact of such conversations shows: even within the right camp there is growing dissatisfaction with what it has become. New Democracy at Mitsotakis.

To put it simply, all these movements have one thing in common: parts of society and the political class no longer believe that the current system is capable of correcting itself from within. When new political exits begin to emerge around the authorities, this means that the old entrance no longer suits many.

The new democracy has lost touch with society

New Democracy at Kyryakose Mitsotakis is increasingly perceived not as a broad Conservative party, but as ahidden mechanism of power. In the center – Megaro Maxima management vertical, large interests, communication tricks and a constant attempt to explain to society that it simply does not feel correctly about its own poverty.

But people don’t see presentations, they see invoices. They see prices in the supermarket, housing costs, the state of hospitals, education problems, wiretapping scandals, questions about Tempi and the feeling that the government more often protects itself than citizens.

That’s why the slogan “stability” starts working against the government. If stability means high costs, closed scandals and lack of responsibility, then for many citizens this is no longer stability, but stagnation with good PR.

The 2027 election campaign has already begun

Formally, elections are still ahead. In fact, the political campaign has already begun. Mitsotakis will try to imagine 2027 as a choice between stability and chaos. But opponents will attack differently: stability for whom?

For citizens who can’t cope with prices? For the families of those killed in Tempithat have been demanding answers for years? For young people who cannot pay rent? Or for the elites, big players and the bureaucratic machine, which has learned to survive any scandal?

The government’s main problem is that it has relied on agenda control for too long. But public anger does not disappear with press releases. It’s accumulating. And then the moment comes when The bill is not issued at the TV studio, but at the ballot box.
