Pontic Youth of Attica spent a night of remembrance under the slogan “We don’t forget”honoring the victims genocide of the Greeks of Pontus.

Union of Pontian Youth of Attica (Ένωση Ποντίων Νεολαίας Αττικής, EPONA) held a touching night of remembrance in honor of the victims genocide of the Greeks of Pontus. The action took place in the evening May 18on the eve of the memorable date May 19under the symbolic slogan “We don’t forget”.

According to Pontos Newsthe event was dedicated to the memory of the fallen Pontians and became part of the commemorative events for the anniversary genocide of Pontic Hellenism.

The program started in 20:00 from a musical dedication. The participants performed songs and traditional Pontic tunes, maintaining a living connection with culture and historical memory Ponta.

Participated in the musical part Sokratis Xandtinidis – vocals, Alexandros Mikhailidis – Pontic lyre, Orpheas Kosmidis – dauli and Pavlos Fotiadis – lauto. Together they created not just a concert program, but a space of memory where music became the language of grief, dignity and continuity.

IN 21:00 a symbolic action followed “Dawn on May 19”. Participants lit candles and held a night vigil. In an atmosphere of silence and respect, candlelight became a symbol of memory, honor and the continuation of the Pontic tradition.

This evening was not an ordinary cultural event. It became a reminder that the memory of 353,000 dead cannot be reduced to a date on a calendar or an official ceremony. It is preserved by people – especially young people, who accept this memory not as a museum exhibit, but as part of their own identity.

This is the main meaning of such actions: history lives not only in archives, speeches and government statements. She lives in a song, in a candle, in silence and in a promise not to forget. Trite? Maybe. But sometimes it is the simplest gestures that turn out to be stronger than the next official text, written as if it was compiled by a committee of tired folders.
