Ilioupoli: a video of the moment of the tragedy with two 17-year-olds has appeared

To Ilioupoli A video of the moment of the tragedy with two 17-year-old girls has been published. One of them died, the second was hospitalized in serious condition.

To Ilioupoli A video has emerged from a security camera that recorded moment of tragedy with two 17-year-old girlswho jumped from the roof of an apartment building. One of the minors died, the second is in hospital in critical condition.

The video was filmed by a camera inside the office of a man who was one of the first to discover the girls after the incident. In the recording, screams and a strong blow are heard, after which a man approaches the window, sees the victims and runs out into the street to help. The publication of such footage caused a strong reaction, since we are talking about minors and an extremely difficult personal tragedy.

“I heard screams and a strong blow. When I turned my head, I saw two girls on the ground outside the office window.”– an eyewitness told the TV channel Star.

According to him, one of the girls was still breathing. A woman nearby also tried to help. Later, the brother of one of the minors came down to the scene of the incident and, upon seeing his sister, experienced severe shock.

“He couldn’t believe he was seeing his sister.”said an eyewitness, describing the first minutes after the tragedy.

What is known about the victim’s condition?

According to Greek media, one of the 17-year-old girls died from her injuries. The second was first taken to hospital “Asklipio Voulas”and then transferred to CATwhere she is intubated with severe head injuries.

The investigation is checking the circumstances of the incident. According to preliminary information, the girls climbed to the roof of the house together, closed the door behind them and, according to media reports, were wearing headphones. It was also previously reported that they could hold hands. These details should be assessed by the investigation, and not turned into a reason for sensational conclusions.

Residents of the area say that one of the minors was having a hard time with the death of her father, which could have seriously affected her psychological state. However, official conclusions about the causes and motives of the tragedy should only be made by competent authorities and specialists.

Investigation continues

Ελληνική Αστυνομία (Greek police, ΕΛΑΣ) continues the investigation. The testimony of eyewitnesses, the circumstances preceding the tragedy, as well as data that can help understand what happened to the girls in the last hours are being checked.

In such cases, it is especially important not to turn someone else’s pain into a spectacle. The video may be important for the investigation, but its public dissemination raises serious questions: we are talking about minors, their families and a tragedy, the consequences of which cannot be reduced to “hard footage” in the news feed. The Internet, of course, has long considered the misfortune of others as content, but this does not mean that editors are obliged to play along with it.

Important

If you or a loved one is going through a difficult emotional state, don’t face it alone. Greece has a 24/7 helpline 1018 organizations ΚΛΙΜΑΚΑ for people in crisis and their loved ones. In an emergency, call 112 or seek urgent medical attention.

Editorial comment

This tragedy requires caution rather than headlines. When it comes to juveniles and possible suicide, the media’s main job is not to spread shock, but to provide information without unnecessary details that could harm other teens in crisis and cause additional pain to families.

Society is again seeing how fragile the adolescent psyche can be and how little it sometimes takes for personal pain to become irreversible. But instead of endlessly watching scary footage, it is much more important to talk about support, family, school, psychological help and attention to those around you. It’s more boring than a video. But it can save a life.
