Municipalities throughout Greece organize free events for children and adults on days Apocrius And Clean Mondayoffering a rich program of music, dance, traditions and food.
Parade in Athens and Koulouma on Philopappou Hill
Municipality of Athens prepared an extensive festive program. On Sunday there will be a carnival procession with the participation of artists, dance groups and musical groups. The opening of the parade will be held Philharmonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Athensfollowed by performances by Bloco Swingueira, Global Daoulia, the cultural union “O Molyvos” and the Greek team Cheerleaders. The procession will end at Kotzia Square.
IN Clean Monday festivities will continue from 11:00 on the hill Philopappouwhere the Philharmonic Orchestra will perform a musical promenade. After half an hour the traditional Kuluma with an island folk festival and a performance by the Nikos Ikonomidis ensemble. Guests will be offered traditional Lenten dishes.
Program at the Stavros Niarchos Cultural Center
Stavros Niarchos Cultural Center (ΚΠΙΣΝ) also prepared a rich program.
On Sunday, February 22, an open salsa lesson will be held in the center’s park (11:00–12:00), after which the singer Mailán will present a music and dance show in the rhythms of salsa, mambo and cha-cha, accompanied by a live orchestra and dance group.
From 11:00 to 15:00 there will be a zone for children face paintingand from 11:30 to 14:30 – a master class on creating carnival masks inspired by Cuban traditions.
IN Clean Monday (February 23) from 12:00 to 15:00 there will be a musical “panigiris” under the artistic direction of Vasilika Karakosta. The program features traditional songs from different regions of the Greek world, combining folk heritage and modern musical interpretations.
There are artistic activities for children and families: a kite-making workshop “Aerial Dreams” (11:30–14:30) and creative silk-screen printing dedicated to the Kirá-Saracosti tradition (12:00–15:00).
Holiday in Piraeus
In Piraeus, on Freattida beach, on Clean Monday at 12:00 a large folk festival will begin with the participation of Vangelis Koniotopoulos. Guests will enjoy live music, traditional dancing, Lenten treats, lagana, halva and wine. Children and adults will be able to take part in traditional kite flying.
All events take place from free entry subject to the order of the queue where provided by the organizers.
