Israel received the first shipment of crude oil from Venezuela after the imposition of an American blockade against the Latin American country. The agency reported this on Tuesday Bloomberg citing sources familiar with the details of the deal.
According to the publication, we are talking about the first delivery since the tightening of sanctions from USA and establishing control over the export of Venezuelan oil.
In early January, Washington launched a military operation against the Venezuelan authorities and announced its intention to take control of the country’s energy exports. US authorities say they now control the main oil supply channels.
Since then, at least seven tankerssuspected of violating the sanctions regime, including a ship flying the Russian flag in the Atlantic Ocean. Venezuelan companies are also prohibited from cooperating with Russia and China.
According to sources, the delivery was intended for the company Bazanthe largest oil refiner in Israel. According to the analytical platform Kplerthe last such delivery was carried out in mid-2020 and amounted to approximately 470 thousand barrels.
Minister of Information of Venezuela Miguel Perez Pirela on Wednesday said on social network X that the delivery message was “LIE“
However, according to analysts, the delivery fits into Washington’s strategy to redirect Venezuelan oil flows to new international buyers.
Previously agency Reuters reported that India’s two state-owned refineries had purchased approximately 2 million barrels Venezuelan oil for delivery in the second half of April.
In addition, two million barrels were sent to the company’s Spanish refineries Repsol.
China, previously the largest importer of oil from Venezuela, has reduced purchases and partially replaced them with Iranian heavy raw materials.
Beijing condemned the US actions, saying the use of force and export restrictions violated international law and Venezuela’s sovereignty.
Previously President of the United States Donald Trump announced Washington’s intention “to control Venezuela’s oil resources for an indefinite period.”
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov noted that the United States is seeking to establish control over global energy routes for the purpose of economic dominance.
