German startupbased in the area Munichreported a successful test hypersonic rocket prototype.
According to the company, the launch took place from the Norwegian spaceport Andøya: the device reached a speed of about 7300 km/hand the declared range was 300 km.
The developer claims that already during the first test flight the prototype was maneuverable. The company also declares its intention to bring the project to a finished weapon system by 2029and the cost of the solution, according to their estimates, can be approximately 80% lower compared to previous developments in this area.
Company representative Hypersonica (Feldkirchen) commented on the test as follows: “This is a huge breakthrough for us: we have shown what can be done in Europe in just nine months if the right team works on a big idea. We are convinced that Europe needs technology that protects our freedom and democracy – and with this we have taken a big step in the right direction.”.
The company’s message specifically emphasizes the project’s connection with European defense plans and allied programs: “This approach will allow Europe, within the framework of the NATO and UK hypersonics strategies, to deploy hypersonic capabilities by 2030 – and at a fraction of the usual costs.”.
Historically, projects of high-speed rocket systems in Europe developed back in the 20th century. In particular, in 1942 A successful rocket launch was carried out in Germany Aggregat 4 (also known as V-2), however, it was not controllable in the modern sense, and its use did not change the outcome of the war and became part of the tragic legacy of that era.
For now we are talking about the developer’s statement and the parameters given by the company itself. Further evaluation of the prototype’s capabilities will depend on further testing, technical confirmation and what requirements are formulated by potential customers in Europe.
