A 2.5-year-old girl remains in critical condition.who, under unclear circumstances, fell into a fountain in the Kallithea area and was hospitalized in the intensive care unit of a children’s hospital.
According to doctors, a computed tomography scan did not reveal signs of cerebral edema, but the child’s condition is still assessed as critical.
The girl is in the intensive care unit of the Aglaya Kyriacou hospital and is connected to a ventilator.
Obstacle blocking view
A large barrier played a key role in the incident.installed in front of the fountain in Cyprus Square, which blocked the view.
There was a raised stage and a massive canvas that completely blocked the view of the water, making it impossible for parents and other people in the square to see what was happening.
As a result the child remained in cold water for some timewithout being noticed.
It took the parents about 3-4 minutes to reach the inside of the square, where the 26-year-old father found the girl unconscious in the fountain.

At the time of the incident, the child was in the square with his father, a 26-year-old man of Albanian origin.
According to available information, the girl was left unattended for several minutes, after which she ended up in the fountain.
According to evidence, the child was unconscious in the water for several minutes before passers-by noticed him, pulled him out and called the police.
A patrol crew who happened to be passing by at that moment immediately stopped and began providing first aid.
The police took the child to the hospital before the ambulance arrived.
At the Aglaya Kyriacou Medical Center, doctors throughout 40 minutes fought for the girl’s life and were able to restore her cardiac activity.
However, the child’s condition remains extremely serious, and he has been in the intensive care unit since hospitalization.
Law enforcement agencies continue to clarify all the circumstances of the incident.
