The tragedy in Evrytania, which claimed the life of a 59-year-old man, could have been a suicide. This was stated by his brother, commenting on the incident that happened on Sunday, February 8, in the Prousos area.
That day the man’s car went off the road and fell into the abyss about 300 meters deep. The driver died on the spot.

Speaking on the Star TV channel, the brother of the deceased spoke about the difficult psychological state of his relative.
“My brother suffered from mental illness and relapsed since December. He was in the hospital in Athens for ten days, then everything happened again, there was no improvement. Then he was again admitted to the hospital in Volos for two weeks, he came back – and again the same thing”, – he said.
According to him, the man had previously undergone long-term treatment.
“Most likely he committed suicide because he didn’t feel well. The doctors’ mistake was that he was discharged too early. Four years ago he was already in the hospital and stayed there for a year and a half.”, – the brother emphasized.
The relative also noted that in recent months the deceased had hardly used the car.
“He hasn’t driven for more than two months. And suddenly, without warning anyone, he took the car and drove away. He had nowhere to go, he did not leave the house for several days, he lay in bed all the time. A kilometer later he fell into the abyss. He had suicidal tendencies. It wasn’t a crime, he was alone.”— the man said.
Recently, the brothers lived together. According to a relative, the deceased’s condition worsened.
“He was very bad, he hardly ate, didn’t drink, he felt very bad.”, – he added.
The deceased was well known in the local community of Tornu in Evrytania. His body was recovered by rescue services.
The depth of the gorge and the force of the impact left no chance of survival. According to authorities, the condition of the body with severe injuries and multiple injuries was attributed solely to the force of the vehicle’s fall.
The investigation revealed that the 59-year-old man was alone in the car at the time of the incident.
Law enforcement agencies continue to verify all the circumstances of the tragedy.
