China and Russia build up gold reserves amid global uncertainty

China continues in accelerated mode build up your gold reservesconfirming the strategic turn towards precious metals against the backdrop of instability in the global financial system.

According to the latest available data, China’s official gold reserves have reached 74.20 million troy ouncesrecording another increase.

People’s Bank of China carries out regular gold purchases as part of a broader policy of diversifying foreign exchange reserves and reducing dependence on the US dollar.

This line fits into Beijing’s overall geo-economic strategy in conditions of increased uncertainty in the international financial system.

Analysts view China’s continued accumulation of gold as preparing for possible market shocksand also as a tool for strengthening its financial and monetary influence at the global level.

In parallel with China, a similar strategy is being implemented by Russiawhich is already among the largest holders of gold in the world.

According to official data, Russia’s gold reserves exceed 2,300 tonsand the share of monetary gold in the structure of the country’s international reserves is estimated at more than 40%.

Unlike China, Russia not only actively accumulated gold in previous years, but also remains one of largest gold producers in the world, which allows it to partially close the cycle of replenishing reserves through domestic production.

Taken together, the actions of Beijing and Moscow reflect general trend among large non-Western economies: strengthening the role of gold as a defensive asset against the backdrop of sanctions risks, the debt burden of developed countries and the politicization of the global financial system.

Thus, gold again becomes not just a reserve asset, but element of strategic sovereignty in the context of fragmentation of the global economy.
