Greece recorded a 2.4% increase in sickness benefits paid through e-ΕΦΚΑ.
According to new data, the daily payout is 18.61 euro for the first 15 days of temporary disability, and after the end of the two-week period can reach 34.20 euroswhich is the maximum size set.
The benefit is provided to employees who are unable to perform their duties due to physical or mental illness, subject to compliance with the requirements of current legislation.
To receive payments, you must provide a medical report, proof of temporary disability, as well as a certificate from your employer confirming your absence from work. The duration of sick leave must exceed three days.
For the first three days of illness, benefits are not paid by e-ΕΦΚΑ. During this period, the employer is obliged to pay half the daily wage or half the monthly salary, while insurance premiums continue to be paid in full.
Starting from the fourth day of sick leave, payments are made at the expense of e-ΕΦΚΑ. In some cases, the employer compensates for the difference between the actual salary and the amount of benefits.
For employees with up to one year of experience, this employer’s obligation lasts up to 13 days, and for employees with more than one year of experience – up to 26 days or one month.
Experts note that the increase in benefits will partially offset inflationary pressure, but the real income of workers during illness remains limited.
Thus, the new indexation improves the formal indicators of the social protection system, but does not solve the problem of the financial vulnerability of sick employees.
