Residents of the area Ano-Glyfada V Attica forced shovels and picks digging out their cars, covered with mud and stones after the mudflow that swept through the streets of the area after yesterday’s rain.
The situation was especially difficult on the street. Metsovwhere the area now resembles “bombed area”. The downpour turned the streets into the beds of turbulent streams, which brought with them mountains of clay, earth and stonescovering everything in their path.

According to local residents, the water flows acted like road roller: They demolished dozens of cars, garbage containers and street structures, leaving behind complete devastation.
“I have been living here on Metsova for about 15 years. I have never seen such chaos as yesterday,” – says a resident of the area Dimitris Michalis. According to him, the water rushed from above with enormous force: “It carried away containers, cars, soil, everything.”
Today the main task of residents is return to at least a minimum of normality. People are clearing streets and digging out cars on their own, hoping to get to work and send their children to school.

At the same time, residents express dissatisfaction delay in assistance from the authorities. According to them, from the moment the destruction began around 19:00 until 23:30, they fought the elements almost alone.

Municipal services arrived late in the evening and worked all night, however, as of morning, the road remains blockedand movement around the area remains difficult.
Residents of the area complain that a similar, albeit to a lesser extent, situation repeats itself after every rainstorm. However, instead of creating an effective storm control system, the authorities are busy beautifying the area, spending, in their words, “money on all sorts of nonsense.”
It is worth noting that rapid mudflowwhich rolled down the street yesterday, caused the death of a woman who decided to cross the road ignoring all reasonable warnings. The result was that the stream knocked her off her feet and dragged her under the car, where she choked and died.
This woman was lucky, she was saved, unlike the other…
