The most heavily armed warship in the world is preparing for service in the Russian Navy


The largest and most powerful ship of the Russian fleet preparing for recommissioning. We are talking about a heavy nuclear missile cruiser “Admiral Nakhimov” project 1144 “Kirov”which, after a large-scale modernization cycle, is at the final stage of testing.

The ship has passed deep modernization in almost all areas – from electronic systems and sensors to residential premises and automated fire extinguishing systems. After completing the final tests, the cruiser must re-enter the fleet Northern Fleet of the Russian Navy.

In total, as part of the Kirov project, it was built four ships. Currently remains in service “Peter the Great”recommissioning awaits “Admiral Nakhimov”whereas “Admiral Ushakov” And “Admiral Lazarev” withdrawn from the fleet, although the possibility of their return is theoretically not excluded.

The cruiser’s displacement is about 28,000 tonsbody length – 252 meters. After modernization the ship will receive 174 universal launchers for missiles for various purposes.

Of this number 78–80 cells designed for attack cruise and hypersonic missiles Kalibr, Oniks And Zircon. The latter, according to the stated characteristics, develop speed 8–9 swingswhich makes them extremely difficult to intercept by modern air defense systems.

The cruiser’s air defense is provided by 96 S-400/Fort-M anti-aircraft missile systemsas well as short-range ship systems Pantsir-M.

“Admiral Nakhimov” considered one of most heavily armed surface ships in the world and the largest nuclear warship outside the aircraft carrier class.

Completion of all tests and official return of the ship to the fleet expected within 2026.
