In Glyfada, a woman died: she was carried away by a stormy stream of water and pinned under a car.


Tragic incident occurred in the metropolitan area Glyfadawhere a woman died as a result of heavy rains. In the area Terpsithea her carried away by powerful streams of waterwhich, according to local residents, was a direct consequence lack of flood control work.

The incident happened in Ano Glyfadeon the street Cyril and Methodius. According to preliminary data, the woman on foot tried to cross the road during a heavy downpour.

However rapid streams of water with stones and mud knocked her off her feet. As a result, the woman found herself pinned under a carwhich was also carried away by the rapid water flow.

Residents of the area emphasize that in Terpsithea and in general in Upper Glyfada municipal authorities for years were limited to the so-called “showcase projects” – children’s playgrounds, outdoor exercise equipment and external landscaping, – not implementing vital projectsrelated to flood protection.

The weather hit Upper Glyfada particularly hardcausing large-scale destruction and scenes of chaos on the streets of the area. Due to the intensity of precipitation, central roads turned into real river bedsalong which water and sediment rushed.

A particularly difficult situation has developed in Anfeon streetwhere they came down from the mountain streams of dirt, stones and debriscreating dangerous driving conditions. The street resembled a mountain stream, sweeping away everything in its path.

Waste containers were carried away by the water and crashed into parked cars, heavy stones windshields damagedand the bus turned out to be blocked on the risesince travel became impossible.

In another episode, a car, carried away by currents, crashed into a parked official carlocated down the slope.

Simultaneously Residents of the area came out of their homes and tried to provide assistance in every possible way until the situation was brought under control and restoration work began.
