Prime Minister Israel Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday (19/1) stated that he was categorically opposed to the placement Turkish or Qatari military units in Gaza Strip.
“There will be no Turkish or Qatari soldiers in the Gaza Strip”,” Netanyahu emphasized, speaking at Knesset.
He also noted that Israel disagrees with Washington on the issue of personalities who should be involved in the implementation of the president’s plan USA Donald Trump on the future of the Palestinian enclave.
Creation of the executive committee
At the end of last week White House announced the formation of an executive committee that will operate under the auspices of the so-called “Council of Peace”which will be chaired by Donald Trump himself.
The committee was represented as “advisory” body and, according to the US statement, includes, among others, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Turkey Hakan Fidan and Qatari diplomat Ali al-Tawanti.
Already on Saturday, Netanyahu’s office officially expressed disagreement with the composition of this body.
The statement emphasized that the announcement of the formation of the commission “was not agreed with Israel and is contrary to its policies”. Netanyahu said he had instructed the Foreign Minister Israel contact the Secretary of State regarding this matter USA.
The reasons for the Israeli side’s objections were not specified in detail in the statement, however Jerusalem repeatedly emphasized his opposition to participation Turkey in the post-war administration of Gaza.
Relations between the two countries have deteriorated sharply since the war, which began amid an unprecedented attack Hamas to Israeli territory on October 7, 2023.
The truce enters its second phase
The United States had previously announced that the agreement on truce in Gaza entered the second phase.
This stage involves Hamas disarmamentthe gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces, which currently control almost half of the enclave, and the deployment international stabilization force.
It has not yet been determined which countries will take part in this mission. The force is expected to be responsible for providing security in Gaza and training Palestinian police units.
