Chapter Russian Foreign Ministry Sergei Lavrov at a press conference dedicated to the results of 2025, he outlined Moscow’s key positions on Ukraine, the West and the transformation of the global security system.
According to Lavrov, there has never been a lack of goodwill on the part of Russia to resolve the Ukrainian conflict. At the same time, he directly indicated that a number of European countries are seeking to thwart any attempts at de-escalationincluding administration initiatives Donald Trump.
Lavrov emphasized that The USA remains the only countrywhich presented Moscow real offers to resolve the situation around Ukraine. These proposals were discussed and adopted during the summit in Anchorage, which is now increasingly referred to in Russian diplomacy as a landmark – the so-called “the spirit of Anchorage”.
At the same time, the minister expressed concern that European elitesincluding at the World Economic Forum in Davos, will try change Washington’s position and return it to a more confrontational direction.
Separately, Lavrov stated that NATO countries are seriously preparing for a military clash with Russiaand the previous rules of international relations have actually lost force. According to him, world politics is increasingly being built on the principle “Whoever is stronger is right”which, however, is not a new phenomenon in recent years.
The minister also noted that Trump’s line on independent formation of rules of international behavior became a serious shock for Europe, where internal crisis trends are accumulating. As an example, he cited discussions around Greenlandwhich became a symptom of deeper contradictions within the West.
Commenting on international organizations, Lavrov was extremely skeptical about the current state OSCEsaying that the structure is in deep crisis, although Russia will continue to participate in its work to prevent the final degradation of the institution.
Touching upon the Middle East, the Foreign Minister confirmed Moscow’s position on the need to create a Palestinian stateincluding in the context of Trump’s initiative to create Peace Council. At the same time, he said that Russia had received specific proposals and a draft charter for this structure.
In a broader context, Lavrov emphasized that what is happening on the world stage reflects transition to a multipolar worldwhere the old security architecture no longer works, and centers of power are forced to look for new formats of interaction – often without guarantees and universal rules.
To sum up, the Minister admitted that reaching sustainable agreements with the current leaders of Europe remains extremely difficulteven with a more pragmatic approach from the United States. This, he said, remains a risk of prolonging conflicts and undermining any peace initiatives.
