Farmers are dismantling roadblockswho were held for almost two months without achieving satisfaction of their demands after the meeting of the delegation of farmers with the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakisheld on January 19.
At the same time, representatives of the agricultural sector emphasize that the fight doesn’t stophowever, from now on they intend do not block roadslimited to other forms of pressure.
In the area Malgars it was decided to leave tractors on the Athens-Thessaloniki national highway, but without blocking movement. “The tractors remain in combat positions, but the roads will always be open. We don’t want to create problems for other social groups who have supported us from the very beginning and ask us not to give up,” said the chairman of the agricultural cooperative Kiminov-Malgar after the meeting Kostas Sephis.
He emphasized that without real and large-scale decisions on the key issue of rice production, farmers do not intend to leave completely, adding that the rural population disappointed and outraged the results of the negotiations.

As a result of the meeting, it was decided:
- On Friday, January 23, at 10:00, all tractors of the Nicaea blockade will head to the center of Larissa as part of symbolic completion 54-day mobilization, after which farmers will return to the villages and to agricultural work.
- At a later date, a detailed analysis of the blockade will be carried out and new forms of protest will be prepared.
- It will be proposed to conduct new national agrarian conference with a possible event in Athens involving tractors, agricultural machinery and buses.
“We are not retreating. The fight continues. Only in unity is there victory,” the farmers’ statement emphasizes.
Chairman of the United Federation of Agrarian Unions of Karditsa Costas Zellas said that the final decision on ending or transforming the checkpoints would be made on Wednesday after a vote by representatives of rural communities.
Meanwhile, the farmers had already left the checkpoint at Green Lanterns in Thessalonikiwhich allowed traffic to be restored in the direction of Perea and Macedonia Airport. Similar decisions were made in Derveni and Mikrotivy Magnisia, where alternative forms of protest actions are being considered.
