By the decision of the head ΑΑΔΕ Georgios Pitsilis ΣΔΟΕ (Service for Combating Economic Crimes) renamed and reorganized into ΓΔ-ΔΕΟΣ (General Directorate of Forces for the Control of Economic Operations).
Renaming is accompanied deep structural reorganizationthe goal of which is to increase the effectiveness of the fight against tax evasion, smuggling and all forms economic crime.
New «super service» ΑΑΔΕ takes over full range of special investigations – from tax crimes to suppression of illicit trafficking in archaeological assets, with an eye to budget stability and the fight against organized crime.
Job ΓΔ-ΔΕΟΣ officially starts March 16. Structure includes three central directoratescoordinating specialized operational units throughout the country.
ΔΙΠΑΤΕΕ (Directorate for planning customs inspections and investigations) coordinates ΜΕΤΕΛ (Special Customs Inspection Units) in Attica and Thessaloniki, focused on combating smuggling And customs evasion.
ΔΙΠΑΦΕΕ (Directorate of planning and assessment of tax audits) leads ΜΕΦΕΛ (Special Tax Audit Units) in Attica, Thessaloniki, Patras and Heraklion and is responsible for combating major tax evasion.
ΔΙΠΕΟΕ (Directorate for planning inspections of economic crimes) supervises ΜΕΟΕΛ (Special Economic Inspection Units) in Attica and Macedonia, who are investigating complex cases of corruption and fraud.
The new structure explicitly provides strengthening international cooperation in the fight against cross-border crime.
Divisions ΓΔ-ΔΕΟΣ will work closely with OLAF (European Anti-Fraud Service), ΓΓΚΔ (General Secretariat for the Fight against Corruption)as well as with international police structures EUROPOL And INTERPOL.
The role of ARO Greece (National Asset Recovery Office)which through the network CARIN deals with the identification and seizure of proceeds obtained from crime.
From taxes and drugs to weapons and antiquities
Area of responsibility ΓΔ-ΔΕΟΣ covers extremely wide range of offenses. In addition to tax and customs crime, ΜΕΤΕΛ carry out checks related to narcotic and psychotropic substancesprecursors, weaponsammunition and explosives.
The control zone also includes illegal trafficking of archaeological assetsmonuments and works of art that are part of national cultural heritage.
Particular emphasis is placed on control toxic and hazardous substancesincluding radioactive and nuclear materials, toxic wastes and environmental pollutants.
At the same time, divisions monitor turnover gold and precious stonesillegal trade counterfeit productsand also money launderingobtained by criminal means.
“ΔΕΟΣ” – around the clock
The Pitsilis decision provides that services ΓΔ-ΔΕΟΣ can work around the clock, seven days a week to perform assigned tasks.
Employees pass special due diligence checkincluding an analysis of criminal records, disciplinary violations and financial status, as well as mandatory training in specialized centers in Greece and abroad.
