Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis in an interview with Athenaida Negkadedicated to summing up the results of his work, made a number of interesting statements.
However, one of them particularly stood out – the statement that “we are his employer, and he is just an employee whom we hired for four years to do his job“
It is impossible not to admit: the wording turned out to be almost touching. Moreover, the prime minister added that citizens will receive “another opportunity to take stock and update the employment contract“
True, there are doubts that most Greeks really feel employers. However, such a presentation is nothing more than indirect signal to those voters who have distanced themselves from New Democracy: come back and support the party in power again.
Indeed, the Prime Minister seems well aware that in the current climate achieving a one-party parliamentary majority looks unrealistic. For the political climate to change and the ratings to once again approach the border of self-sufficiency, truly extraordinary events must occur.
That’s why this started veiled ingratiation in front of those who once bet on him and believed his promises. Mitsotakis hopes that current opposition is still unable to offer society a convincing and clear alternative to governing the country.
Against this background, he resorts to a proven political technique – the image humble politicianwhich demonstratively acts as “servants of the people” An old trick, but sometimes it still works.
Essentially, we are talking about the old and a well-known political device – image demonstration “humble servant” at a time when real political positions are weakening. The technique is not new, but in the absence of a convincing alternative in power, it still remains part of the survival strategy.
