There remains, according to the author’s estimates, until the next parliamentary elections. no more than 14 months: in the second half of the year 2027 Greece should take over the presidency European Unionand the country will need a functioning government to drive this agenda.

Against this background, the chairman New Democracy and current Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis took a step that inevitably raises questions about the actual timing of the elections.

He announced that in the next parliamentary elections the electoral lists New Democracy new candidates will be included in a number of constituencies.

Appointments by district:

  1. Marios ThemistocleousDeputy Minister of Health – A’ Eastern Attica.
  2. Thassos Gaitanisformer Secretary General for Research and Innovation – B3 Southern sector of Athens.
  3. Athanasios Tsourasformer Secretary General for State Property – A’ Thessaloniki.
  4. Manos Logothetisformer Secretary General for Migration Policy – Samos.
  5. Dimitrios GlimisSecretary General for the Reception of Asylum Seekers – Phocis.
  6. Yiannis Papageorgiouemployee of the Prime Minister’s Office in Thessaloniki – A’ Thessaloniki.

Against the backdrop of these announcements, talk about the possible electoral “surprise” – right up to the elections already in first half of 2026. The text specifically notes that, from an economic point of view, the window for filing applications under the recovery program closes at January 2026even if the entire program cycle formally ends in August 2026.

In other words, the logic boils down to a simple principle: “What we managed to distribute, we managed to do”.

Further, after the announcement of six candidates, in fact, “everything remains open” – especially taking into account the fact that in parallel on the same day there were reshuffles at the level general secretarieswhich is also perceived as part of preparation for larger political decisions.
