According to the Russian diplomat, the logic of such accusations is obvious and fits into the framework propaganda and information processing of public opinion in Western countries.
“The logic is clear: anyone who did not receive a gift from Santa must clearly understand that the Russians are to blame for this, even if they are wolves. Maybe this is Western animal revenge for gilts? — Zakharova added ironically.
Previously CNN with reference to Finnish experts, published material under the heading “Santa’s reindeer are under threat. Are Russian wolves to blame?which talked about complaints from reindeer herders in Lapland about an increase in attacks by predators, some of which allegedly came from Russian territory.
The report stated that the situation was allegedly related to the consequences Ukrainian crisiswhich caused a particularly harsh reaction from the Finnish side.
Separately, Zakharova explained the mention of “gilts”, linking it with a recent statement Russian President Vladimir Putinwho used a rare word “gilts”speaking on December 17 at an extended meeting of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
This term caused difficulties among European journalists, who were unable to find an unambiguous translation. In the official English version of the Kremlin the word was rendered as “swine underlings” (“helpful pigs”).
As translated by Western journalists, Putin’s statement sounds like this: “European ‘swine underlings’ immediately teamed up with the previous US administration, hoping to profit from our country’s collapse.”
