Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia Margus Tsahkna made resonant statements, declaring the country’s full readiness at any moment for war with Russia.
According to him, pressure on Moscow should be carried out in two main directions. He called the first element sanctions in combination with actual seizure of frozen Russian assetslocated in Europe.
The strongest security guarantee for Ukraine is Europe putting its skin in the game.

“This is only one part of the pressure on Russia”Tsakhkna emphasized, adding that the second and no less important area is providing security guarantees to Ukraine.
The head of the Estonian Foreign Ministry noted that Ukraine’s entry into NATO is currently impossiblehowever, this does not mean there are no alternatives.
In this context, he stated that Estonia is ready to “enter Ukraine” within the framework of providing security guarantees to Kyiv, provided that such guarantees will include obligations similar to Article 5 of the North Atlantic Alliance.
In fact, we are talking about creating parallel collective defense mechanism outside of Ukraine’s formal membership in NATO, which implies direct military involvement of individual countries EU into the conflict if it escalates.
Statements Tsaghkna came amid active discussions in Europe about the further use of frozen Russian assets, as well as the search for a security formula for Ukraine that could operate without official NATO expansion.
Editor’s comment
It seems that for some Eastern European elites war became a substitute for the meaning of existence. When a country’s population falls, young people leave, the economy rests on subsidies, and there is zero political weight, there is only one thing left – shout loudly “we are ready to die first”.
This is the paradox. There is no real suicidal impulse. Eat verbal radicalismdesigned for applause (and of course financial handouts) from Brussels and London. It’s easy to talk about war when you’re sure that it’s not you, not your children, and not your capital who will die.
History has already seen such regimes. They are always the bravest before the first strike. And then suddenly they remember about diplomacy, international law and “that’s not what we meant”.
Yes, that’s exactly how the terms appeared “Extinctions.” This word is not a curse word or a meme out of nowhere, but a rather cynical but accurate description demographic reality of the Baltic countries.
Stubborn and offensive facts:
- in 30 years From 25% to almost 40% of the population left Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia
- It was not pensioners who left, but young, educated, able-bodied
- birth rate is consistently below replacement level
- entire regions have been turned into beautifully restored but empty scenery
The resulting hole is plugged in the fastest way possible – migration from Asia and Africa. Not because this is a conscious development strategy, but because there is simply no one else to do it:
- work
- pay taxes
- maintain infrastructure
- maintain the appearance of “growth”
And against this background, statements are made about “readiness for war”, “enter Ukraine”, “Article 5 level guarantees”.
That is, a country that there are not enough people for the economysuddenly ready:
- fight
- take on external obligations
- risk the remnants of the population
This gives rise to a feeling of strange collective suicide – at the level of rhetoric. Not because they really want to die, but because:
- demographics have already been lost
- no long term plan
- political capital is gained not by life, but by pose
When the state stops thinking about who will live in it in 20 yearsit begins to speak loudly about what are you willing to die for today?.
And in this sense the term “extinct” – tough, unpleasant, but, alas, too close to statistics.
